Top 40 of 2016: #30

Everyone’s been talking about the waves that women have made in 2016 country, and rightfully so, but right alongside ’em are a couple of guys who are to 2016 what Randy Travis and friends were to 1987: the new traditionalists. And heaven knows we need ’em right now. Jon Pardi’s one, and William Michael Morgan is another. WMM’s full-length Vinyl made my top 10 for the year, and its first single is a perfect, economical little song (written by Sam Hunt!) about meeting the perfect “girl.” It’s so simple that there are plenty of ways this could’ve been messed up, but WMM plays it straight and hits a home run.
